Vappujuhla / 1st of May celebration 2024

Where: At the Hopewell Avenue Public School, 17 Hopewell Ave. Follow the signs, or look for the OSKU helpers. You will also need to register in the office.

Kaikki OSKUlaiset ja OSKUn ystävät ovat tervetulleita vappujuhlaan. Tule nauttimaan simasta, munkeista sekä kahvista kanssamme ja katsomaan OSKU-oppilaiden esitykset. Mukaan kuuluu myös yhteislaulua. Kahvit meille lahjoittaa ystävällisesti Happy Goat kadun toiselta puolelta (Hopewell ja Bank-kadun kulma).

Juhliin ei ole pääsymaksua, mutta otamme vastaan lahjoituksia kahvipöydän kustannuksia varten.

Muista tuoda ylioppilaslakki, jos sinulla sellainen on!

All OSKU members and friends are welcome to join us for Vappu celebrations at the school on Saturday morning! We will have munkkis and sima (and coffee of course) and the Osku children will perform. You will also get to participate in singing. Coffee is offered by generous donation from Happy Goat Coffee.

There is no cover charge for attending the party, but cash donations at the coffee table will be greatly appreciated.

If you have one, don’t forget to wear your high school graduation hat!

Tervetuloa OSKUn perinteiseen joulujuhlaan!

Tarjolla glögiä, aitoja suomalaisia joulupöydän herkkuja, jouluista ohjelmaa, OSKU lapset esiintyvät, myyjäiset, arvontaa – ja tietenkin myös joulupukki! Finnish Singers of Ottawa esiintyy juhlassa OSKUn 40-vuotis juhlan kunniaksi. Kyllä, OSKU on toiminut jo 40 vuotta.

Liput: $35. Lippuhinta $20 jos tuot jotain jouluruokapöytäämme. Lapset alle 14v. sisään lahjoituksella.

OSKUn juhlavuoden kunniaksi haluamme juhlistaa enemmän tänä vuonna joten rohkaisemme kaikkia pukeutumaan juhlavaatteisiin, vaikka virallista pukukoodia ei ole. Kansallispuvut ja muut juhlalliset asut ja puvut plussaa.

Jouluruokapöytä tehdään vapaaehtoisvoimin – ilman apuasi emme onnistu! Auta meitä koordinoimaan monipuolinen ateria. Ole ystävällinen ja ilmoita Iralle, jos voit tuoda jotain jouluruokapöytäämme puhelimitse 613-883-7558 tai sähköpostitse.

Welcome to the traditional OSKU Christmas Party

Saturday, December 2nd, 3pm to 6 pm

Kitchissippi United Church

Join us for some glögg, authentic Finnish Christmas dinner and desserts, OSKU students will perform, musical program, bake sale, raffle, and Santa Claus! Finnish Singers of Ottawa will perform in honour of OSKU 40 years.

Tickets: $35. Ticket is $20 if you bring a dish for the party. Children under 14 by donation.

While there is no official dress code we warmly encourage everyone to dress in their finest this year to celebrate OSKU 40 years. That’s right, OSKU has been operating for 40 years.

The Christmas dinner is done almost completely with your donations, we can’t do it without your help! If you can participate by bringing a dish for the party, please help us coordinate a balanced table by contacting Ira by phone 613-883-7558 or by email.

Please note that you can pay the OSKU – Finnish School of Ottawa annual membership at the party as well. $25 per family, per year.

Tänä vuonna pitkästä aikaa voimme juhlia joulua yhdessä. OSKU:n joulujuhla on koulun toiminnalle tärkeä varainkeruutapahtuma, tuloilla hankimme kirjoja ja muuta opetusmateriaalia.

Pandemiatilanteen arvaamattomuuden vuoksi olemme muuttaneet juhlan formaattia tänä vuonna.

Liity seuraamme nauttimaan glögiä, kinkku- ja graavilohivoileipiä sekä kahvia ja pikkuleipiä. Oppilaat esiintyvät, laulamme joululauluja ja pidämme tuttuun tapaan arpajaiset. Arpajaispalkintoja mm. FinnGoodsista sekä Uppliva Sauna and Steam-spasta.

Liput: $20. Lapset sisään maksutta, toki maksaa saa myös heistä omantunnon mukaan.

Voit tukea koulun toimintaa myös maksamalla jäsenmaksun juhlissa ($20/ vuosi).

OSKU Christmas Party

Things look promising this year so after a long break we will be having OSKU Christmas party. OSKU Christmas party is an important fundraising event for us which enables us to support the Finnish School of Ottawa by buying books and learning materials.

Due to the unpredictable times we live in we are doing things a bit different this year.

Join us for some glögg, ham and gravad lax sandwiches and cookies and coffee. The OSKU students will perform, we will sing Christmas carols, and there will be a raffle. Raffle prizes from places such as FinnGoods and Uppliva Sauna and Steam spa.

Tickets: $20. Children enter free but of course you can make a donation on their behalf too.

You can also support us by paying the OSKU membership fee at the party. ($20 per year)

We hope you can join us! It would be nice if you are able to inform us of your intent to join us so we can prepare better. You can email us about your arrival and amount of people joining here by email or by phone at 613-883-7558.

Osku New Logo

We are so grateful for the talented Jiddu Rivadeneira for designing a beautiful logo for us that definitely oozes the Finnish spirit. He hails originally from Ecuador but you would think that he might have some Finnish blood in him, when you look at the logo. He really captured something quintessentially Finnish in it.

Canadian Friends of Finland Christmas Party

CFF- Canadian Friends of Finland has extended an invitation to OSKU friends to their Christmas party. See below for details:

2019 Joulujuhla

This year we are hanging out at one of our favorite restaurants for our holiday festivities. We have arranged a 3-course prix fixe meal at the special price of $42 (excluding tax and tips)! We booked Das Lokal last year for Christmas and many said it was the best Joulujuhla ever! Thought we would try this again.

If we get enough people to come, we can have the restaurant to ourselves! You do not have to pay in advance (the restaurant will issue your bill), but you must register with us by November 30th if you plan on joining us. The restaurant needs to know how many places to reserve and if the restaurant is closed to other reservations. Also, there is limited seating. Register early so that you are not disappointed!

The menu will include:

soup or salad
main course
dessert plus coffee

We are still discussing the details of the menu, and will let you know in an update when it is finalized. A vegetarian option is available if registrants request it (please let us know when registering). Drinks other than coffee are at additional cost. There is free parking in the restaurant’s lot and also parking on the street. Please register for the event by clicking the link below.
