Tervetuloa OSKU:n vuosikokoukseen 2025 – Welcome to OSKU annual meeting 2025

Date: Monday May 26, 2023 at 6:30pm (please arrive slightly before if you plan on eating so we can start promptly at 6:30pm)

Place: Ikea restaurant, 2685 Iris St, Ottawa, ON K2C 3S4 (we usually choose a large table in the back of the restaurant.)

We are looking for new board members to join us. If you would like to help shape activities, support our mission, and be part of something meaningful, we would love to have you. No experience needed, no Finnish skills needed – just enthusiasm and a big heart for our community.

We welcome new members to join us, even if you do not wish to join the board in an official capacity. We are looking for new members to join the board. For reference for time commitment, we have about 5 meetings a year and plan 1-2 events for the school year. Attending the meetings and helping organize the events is what we need help with. OSKUn ympäristö ystävällinen välipala

Me haluamme kantaa kortemme kekoon ympäristön puolesta. Pyydämme teitä miettimään tätä kun pakkaatte Oskuun välipalan lastenne kanssa.

Suosimme pakkaamaan eväät astioihin, jotka ovat uudelleen käytettävissä. Alla joitakin esimerkkejä auttamaan Oskun välipalan pakkaamisessa:

  • Ei enää erillisiä juomia. Ei pillimehuja. Pakkaa lapsellesi mukaan uudelleen käytettävä vesipullo. Pullon voi täyttää koululla tarvittaessa.
  • Muoviin pakattujen juusto “tikkujen” sijaan osta iso pala juustoa ja lohko se paloiksi tai siivuiksi.
  • Omenalohkot ja viinirypäleet ovat parempi vaihtoehto erikseen pakattujen omenasoseiden ja hedelmäkuppien sijaan.
  • Siis periaatteessa vältä ylimääräisiä pakkausmateriaaleja.
  • Tuo välipala uudelleen käytettävässä kassissa. Kassi palautetaan sinulle astioiden kera koulupäivän lopussa.

OSKU waste-free snack program

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Rot.
We want to do our part for our environment and make reducing waste a priority!
Our wonderful students and parents are educated and smart; we are all committed to reducing the amount of trash we generate.

The Finnish School waste-free snack program favors the use of reusable food containers and reducing waste where possible. Here are some guiding principles that will help you as you and your child prepare for your turn providing the OSKU snack:

  • No drinks are required. Please no more juice boxes or prepackaged drink pouches for snack time. Each child can bring a reusable drink container, e.g. water bottle. It can be refilled with water during the school day as needed.
  • Buy bulk, cut & pack snack in reusable containers. For example, instead of buying individually packaged cheese strings, buy a larger cheese block and cut to strips.
  • Please avoid snacks that are packaged in single use plastics or require disposable utensils. Apples or some grapes are preferable to individually packaged apple sauce. Wholesome cookies are preferable to individually packaged granola bars.
  • Use a reusable bag for bringing the snack to school, it will be returned to you along with the leftovers.

Although we will not be able to eliminate waste completely, it is easy to reduce it!

🇫🇮 OSKU alkaa jälleen ensi lauantaina 7.9.2019 kello 9.30 ilmoittautumisella Hopewellin koulun aulassa.
OSKUn ensimmäinen varsinainen koulupäivä on seuraavalla viikolla 14.9.2019 9.30-12.00

Muistattehan ottaa mukaanne tarvittavat asiakirjat ilmoittautumiseen: passin lapsesi iän todistamiseksi, päiväkoulun kevättodistuksen tai viimeisen todistuksen ja $10.00 ilmoittautumismaksun OCDSBn koululautakunnalle.

Ontarion ulkopuolella asuvien oppilaiden osallistumismaksu on $180/oppilas.

Samoin kuin viime vuosina OSKU korvaa Ontarion ulkopuolella asuvien oppilaiden osallistumismaksun  kuittia vastaan.

OSKU tarjoaa oppilaille välipalan ensimmäisenä koulupäivänä 14.9.2019.
Voisitteko ilmoittaa minulle jos lapsellanne on ruoka-allergioita!!!

Välipalavuorolista jaetaan myöhemmin.

OSKUn jäsenmaksu on $25/vuosi/perhe  tai $40/kaksi vuotta/perhe. Jäsenmaksutuloilla tuetaan OSKUn toimintaa.
Toivon, että lapsenne tulee  OSKUun!
Odotan  OSKUn 2019-2020 kouluvuoden alkamista innolla.

Greetings from OSKU!

🇫🇮 Another OSKU school year is fast approaching. OSKU registration starts at Hopewell Avenue P.S. on September 7th at 9:30am.

First OSKU school day is on the following Saturday the 14th of September at 9.30-12.

Please don’t forget to bring all required documents for the registration: passport for your child’s proof of age, day school’s spring or last report card and the $10.00 registration fee, for the OCDSB school board, $180/per out-of-province student.

As in the past years OSKU will re-emburse out of province students’ fee with a registration receipt.

OSKU will provide a snack on the first day of school the 14th of September.

Can you please let me know if your child has any dietary restrictions!!!

The snack-turn-schedule will be distributed later.

The membership fee for OSKU is $ 25 / year / family or $ 40 / two years / family.  Membership fees support OSKU’s activities.
I hope your child is returning to OSKU!
I’m really looking forward to OSKU 2019-2020 school year starting.

OSKU alkaa pian/ OSKU is starting soon

school year

Registration for this school year is coming up soon on Saturday, September 7, 2019.

**Please note that this year the first day is only for registering, there is no school that day. So you can come to the school and register in the office between 9:30am and 12n. You can bring your child if you wish to, and meet the teacher Raija. But again there is no class for students that day.

First day of class is Saturday, September 14 at 9:30am. Please try to bring your child on time as we leave to go upstairs to our classroom promptly at 9:30am. If you are late please stop by the office and they will direct you on what to do, whether they escort your child or if the child is old enough to walk themselves. Walking up to the classroom yourself without reporting first in the office is not advisable.

For registration please do not forget to bring the $10 cash. Registrations are handled in the main office.
