Every year OSKU organizes two events:
Osku Christmas party is organized in a potluck fashion. If you want to contribute to our traditional Christmas table, a traditional Finnish Christmas food item is warmly welcomed and in exchange the entrance fee to the event is lowered (coordination with Osku representative regarding what to bring is important to ensure a balanced selection of foods). The event itself includes a program of the Finnish School children performing typical Finnish Christmas songs and a play, and is hosted in both English and Finnish. Usually Santa Claus also makes the long trek from Korvatunturi and comes to greet the children. The dinner is delicious and filling with traditional Finnish favorites such as gravad lax, ham, beet salad, rye bread, gingerbread cookies, glög and many more.
Vappu party is a traditional Finnish First of May celebration that includes sugar coated donuts (munkki) and Sima which is a sweet sparkling mead drink. The Finnish School children also perform and wearing your graduation hat is welcome. This event is typically held at the Hopewell Avenue Public School. The event is free but a cash donation at the coffee table is warmly welcomed.
